you just got to have a moon for Halloween and other times . . .
you will need:
PSP
Eye Candy 4
some decorative brushes
We will start with a 400x400 transparent image.
Step 1 flood
fill your image with a pattern or solid color . . . if your pattern is
not a moon color, your PSP's colorize option to change it to golden or
moon colored hues
I'll use a pattern . . .
now, I will colorize . . .
2. Now we apply the PSP Effects/Geometric Effects/Circle
3. Selection menu/Select All,
then Selection Menu/ Float (I prefer to unfloat but it won't matter
here).
Effects Menu/Distortion Effects/Punch (in PSP7, Punch is under the Geometric Effects) 50%
that takes us from this

to this

looks kind of like someone punched it from behind with their fist . . .
4. IF you used a pattern
fill, apply a Gaussian Blur (I'll use a setting of 4 since this
pattern is pretty wild and big); if NOT, skip this step

to get this
5. IF you have PSP version 8, 9
or 10, apply the Effects/Artistic Effects/Balls and Baubles filter

match next 4 screens

and you have this . . .

skip to step 6.
IF using 5, 6, or 7, you will have to accomplish this step manually . . .
a. Selections Menu/Invert Selection
b. Effects/Cutout/ match settings . . .

. . .to get this
c. Layers/Add raster layer
. . . you don't need to name it; use the default paintbrush set to size
150 and position it as in image and change opacity to 50

click one time for this

then merge visible.
6. DEselect . . . Repeat this
step 3 times; each time with a different custom brush
a. select a
custom outline brush; brush size about 255 . .
. add a new raster layer . . . set color to a
dark color from your image and apply over the white spot

b. different
brush . . . lighter color . . . on a new raster layer . . . different
place

c. different
brush . . . light color . . . on a new raster layer . . . different
place

******* a word about the brushes . . . it REALLY doesn't matter what
they are so long as they are outlines . . . the only REAL purpose is to
suggest the craters and dunes on the moon . . . once the 3 layers are
in place you can adjust the opacity sliders to blend the opacity of
each layer to make the lines interesting . .

d. Raster 1 should be your moon layer . . . merge layers visible
Layers Menu/ Merge visible . . .
here's what I have so far . . .
7. Increase canvas size . . .
Image Menu/Canvas Size to 800x800 with the image centered as shown . . .

to get hazing room . . .

just to make it simple if you are using another size image instead of 400x400, double the size!
8. Eye Candy 4000/Carona filter .
. . for the haze . . . first match the settings and then click in the
Color box to change the haze color
IF you use Eye Candy, your MOON is now complete and you will have
something on this order that you can vary the hue and brightness of
for different looks
Selections/select all/float, then edit/crop to selection; resize
image to suit your needs and save your tube in psp format . . .

I got this one a little speckled to suit me . . . no problem . . . I
used 'UNDO' until the layers were unmerged, duplicated the moon layer,
applied a Gaussian Blur of 20 ( when agitated, hit it
hard! LOL) and got the moon I used for the title image . . .
NOW, WITHOUT EyeCandy4000 . . .you just can't get the same effect . . .
the only thing I know of is to use the drop shadow, choosing the shadow
color the same as you would have anyway . . .
now the problem is that while you can choose a larger scale for the
carona in EyeCandy and swirl and curl it . . . using the drop shadow,
you can only use up to 100 and the misting will be smooth, which can
sometimes be preferable . . .

match the settings, choose your color
and apply the settings until you are happy with the haze . . .
I applied them 5 times to get this one . . .
FINISHED.
