the Mouth

Using the same practice image and the same file.

Okay, here's where we left off with the eyes . . .

Activate the background layer, then add a new layer named upper lip.  You really have to look at the image you are working on - each is different!  In this one, I wanted my selection line to be above the shadow, without thinning out the upper lip too much.  Antialias set to 0, as before.  I also saved the selection to alpha channel.

I picked up the color from a portion of the light area of the face, then moved into the rosier range, then flood filled.

I set foreground and background colors to the same color and then deepened the hue of the background color.  I used the brush set at size 20 and opacity of 100 to gently move the edge of the brush in until I started see a little deeper color at the bottom of the selection.

I contracted the selection by 2

Using the mover tool and right mouse button, I moved the highlight selection to the top of the lip and then increased brightness by 40.

got this

next, I added the drop shadow at the bottom of the upper lip using the settings below.

This was what I got - I didn't like the shine, so I called up the selection from alpha channel.

once selected again, I applied gaussian blur at 1 and got a softer look, deselected, hid the layer and activated the flesh layer.
