the Nose & Cheeks
page 1

Using the same practice image and the same file.

Add a new layer for the nose.  You need to set the paintbrush and choose a dark skin color for the nose (I used the color dropper to select a color from the darkest part of the nose).  Set the paintbrush as the image below.

Now,  I'm using the dark flesh, but I changed to a purple to show you where I painted the lines.

I apply just enough blur to soften the line but I don't want to blur the line too much or it will loose definition.

Next I change the settings for the paintbrush for the shading.

Looking carefully at the face, I apply the shading in the darkened areas.

Using the retouch tool with these settings,  I further soften the outline of the nose.

Using the retouch tool with these settings, I brush over the painted area until I'm happy with the appearance.

At this point, the face is taking shape nicely - now I'll remind you that I'm still working on learning to do this, so no laughing please!

Now we will move on to the cheeks since they are so easy.
Add a new layer named cheeks.

Using the paintbrush,  these are the settings I used for the cheeks and I decided to add a debit in the chin also.
                 cheeks                                                               debit

This image shows you where I  applied the cheeks and debit.

These is the setting I used for the gaussian blur.

You always use your own judgment in this kind of work - it's too hard to please others, so just please yourself!  Apply the gaussian blur as many times as necessary to get the look you want.  Should you get all the blur you want and the cheeks look too dark to you, you can use the layer opacity to fade them out some more.

Your layer palette should look something like this

Make any other adjustment you wish and then hide any layers or delete them so you have the same layers as shown below.  You have eyes, nose, cheeks and mouth unhidden.

Merge visible.  What you now have is the face for your image - the most difficult part!  When working from your own image, save the file as face.psp and tuck it away for when the rest of your image is built.

This completes the face for your image. I don't know if I will continue the tutorial using the same photo since this is a public tutorial and it is only my intention to show how I do it and not my intention to supply a photo of my grand-daughter to be floating around the internet. Will figure out a way to complet instructions.
