This tutorial was written using Paint Shop Pro 7.

I will show you how I made this bear using freehand draw and preset shapes with vectors.

This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP and the tools needed.

You can save these patterns if you want.

Start by opening a new image 400 x 600 on a transparent background.

I started by using the draw tool set for freehand line, antialias and create as vector checked. I used the jeans tile for my fill and the stroke color set to null. I started by making the jeans.

When finished, go to your layers pallet and right click on this layer and choose CONVERT TO RASTER LAYER.

Using the draw tool with the same settings and fill, I made one cuff.

And the same settings for the other cuff.

Convert this to a raster layer.

I added a new raster layer in the middle of these two and used the draw tool at freehand line again, antialias checked, vectors unchecked, for the line style I used "small dash" from the drop down menu, changing my stroke color to white and the fill at null I drew some stitches on the britches...

And then above this layer I used draw again with vectors checked, changing my stroke to null and the fill for the jeans again, I made two belt loops.

I added a new raster layer above this and used draw with the same settings as before to make more stitches, then changed my fill to white and the stroke color at null I made a button.

Make sure everything is on seperate layer so it will be much easier when you go back to each layer and add your shading.

Making the very top layer active, on a new vector layer I used freehand draw again, vectors checked, and for my fill I used a cloth pattern, my stroke color at null, I made a shirt.

Convert this to a raster layer.

On a new vector layer at the very bottom of all that I changed my fill to #AB8242 and made two feet using freehand draw. You can also use preset shapes for all this.

Convert that to a raster layer

On a new vector layer right under the shirt, I used the same color and preset shapes "ellipse" to make one arm, and then the other arm.

Convert this to a raster layer.

On a new vector layer at the very top I used the same color and preset shapes ellipse again to make the head.

Convert this to a raster layer

On a new vector layer right under the head, I used the same color and settings to make an ear, and then the other ear.

Convert this to a raster layer.

On a new vector layer above the head I changed my fill color to black and used the freehand draw again to make the glasses.

Convert this to a raster layer.

On a new vector layer above this I used the same settings and a dark gray for the fill to make the inside of the glasses.

Convert this to a raster layer, with this layer still active go to SELECTIONS - SELECT ALL - SELECTIONS - FLOAT - SELECTIONS - DEFLOAT and then make the other glasses layer active and EDIT - CLEAR to cut this part of the frames.

On a new vector layer above the head, I used freehand draw with black for the fill color and made the nose.

Convert this to a raster layer. Now I will start to add some shading.
