Cowgirl Tutorial

This little girl was made using Paint Shop Pro 7.
But this should work fine in any version.

Download these Selections and save them
in your selections folder. Included in the zip file is her face.psp

These are all the tiles I used to make her,
Of course you are free to use any tiles you want.




Here are the skin colors we will be using
save this and open it in PSP.




Start by opening a new image 540 x 540
on a transparent background.

I have done this tutorial using only one layer,
so that is how I am wrinting this.
You can use seperate layers though, if that
is easier for you.

Go to selections, load from disk, and open
the hat1.sel and fill with the leather tile.
Deselect, On the same layer open the
hat1shade.sel and go to colors, adjust,
brightness/contrast and change the brightness
to -35 and deselect.

Open the neck.sel and fill with the skin color #1
deselect, On the same layer open the
neckshade.sel and fill with the skin color #2.
Deselect

Open the shirt.sel and fill with the brown plaid tile
or a pattern of your choice. Deselect.
On the same layer, open the shirtshade.sel
change the brightness to -65 and deselect.



Open the collar.sel and fill with a lighter color
I used #DDD7CF... Deselect

Open the pants.sel and fill with the pants tile, deselect
On the same layer , open the pantstie.sel
fill this selection with black and deselect.
On the same layer, open the pantsshade.sel
change the brightness to -45 and deselect



Open the hat2.sel and fill with the leather tile, deselect
On the same layer , open the hat2shade.sel
change the brightness to -35 and deselect.

Open the head.sel and fill with skin color #1
go to selections, float and then effects, 3d effects
cutout using the settings below. Go to effects,
noise and add 3% uniform noise and deselect.



On the same layer open the headshade1.sel
fill with the skin color #2 and deselect.

On the same layer open the headshade2.sel
in your tool options pallet, change the opacity to 50.



and fill this selection with the skin color #2 again.
deselect.

On the same layer open the headlightshade.sel
leaving the opacity at 50, fill this with skin color #4, deselect

On the same layer open the headlightshade2.sel
fill with the same color and deselect.

On the same layer open the cheeks.sel
fill with the skin color #5 and deselect.

On the same layer open the nose.sel
in the tool options pallet, change the opacity to 65
fill this selection with skin color #3 and deselect.

On the same layer open the nose2.sel
in the tool options pallet, change the opacity to 100
fill this selection with skin color #3 and deselect.

Now open up the face.psp included in the zip
go to edit, copy and back to the girl, go to
edit, paste, as a new selection and line it up.



Open the hair1.sel and fill with the hairtile at 100%
deselect and open the hair2.sel, fill with same tile
deselect and open the hair3.sel, fill with same tile.

Open the hairtie.sel and fill with your choice
I used the same color as the collar. Deselect

Open the hat3.sel and fill with the leather tile, deselect
On the same layer open the hat3shade.sel
change the brightness to -35 and deselect.



Open the hand1.sel and fill with skin color #1, then
selections, float and effects, 3d effects, cutout
change the blur to 10, leave the rest the same. Deselect.

On the same layer open the hand1shade.sel
fill with the skin color #3 and deselect.
On the same layer open the hand1fingers.sel
fill with the same color and deselect.

Open the backsleeve.sel and fill with the brown plaid tile
deselect, On the same layer open the
backsleeveshade.sel and change the brightness
to -65 and deselect.

Open the hand2.sel and fill with skin color #1, go to
selections, float then effects, 3d effects, cutout
apply the same cutout and deselect.

On the same layer open the hand2shade.sel
fill with skin color #2 and deselect.
On the same layer open the hand2fingers.sel
fill with skin color #3 and deselect.



Open the sleeve.sel and fill with brown plaid tile, deselect
On the same layer open the sleeveshade.sel
adjust the brightness to -65 and deselect.

Open the shirtcuffs.sel and fill with the same color
you used on the collar, deselect.



Open the boot1.sel and fill with the leather tile, deselect
On the same layer open the boot1shade.sel
Change the brightness to -35 and deselect.

Open the boot2.sel and fill with leather tile, deselect
On the same layer open the boot2shade.sel
adjust the brightness, same settings, deselect.

Open the stick.sel and fill with the lightwood tile
While still selected, go to effects, 3d effects
and apply an Inner Bevel with these settings.



Open the horse.sel and fill with the white fur tile
deselect, On the same layer open the
horseshade.sel, change the brightness to -50
deselect and open the horseband.sel, fill with
the leather tile and deselect. Open the
horsenose-eye.sel and fill with black. Go to
effects, 3d effects, and apply the default
round inner bevel. Deselect.
Open the horsemouth.sel and fill with the skin
color #4 and apply an inner bevel with these settings.



Open the horsehair.sel and fill with the fur6 tile
at an angle of 270 and deselect.



Now for the rope, you can open the rope.sel
and fill with a color, or use the rope tube that
comes with Paint Shop Pro and follow inside the
selection to make the rope.



And you are done!
