This tutorial was written using Paint Shop Pro 7.

You will need to download these selections and save them in a folder of your choice. Her eyes and mouth are included in this zip file.

This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP and the tools needed.

Here are the patterns I used for her dress and hair, save these and open them up in psp.


Start by opening a new image 450 x 750 on a transparent background.

Go to SELECTIONS, LOAD FROM DISK and browse to the folder you saved the selections into and open the 1-hair.sel, flood fill this selection with the curlyhair2.jpg at a scale of 100 and deselect (Ctrl - D).

Add a new raster layer and open the 2-neck.sel and fill with your skin color, I used #E0BAA6 and deselect. On the same layer open the 3-neck.sel and fill with a darker skin color, I used #D09A7C and deselect. Still on the same layer open the 4-neck.sel and fill with a lighter skin color, I used #F0D5C6 and deselect.

Add a new raster layer and open the 5-head.sel, fill with your skin color #E0BAA6 and deselect. Then open the 6-face.sel and fill with a darker skin color #C48E70 and deselect. Still on the same layer open the 7-face.sel and fill with a darker skin color #D09A7C and deselect. Then open the 8-cheeks.sel and fill with your cheek color, I used #D67654 and deselect. On the same layer open the 9-face-highlights.sel and fill with a lighter skin color #F0D5C6 and deselect.

Included in the zip file is her face, open the face.psp and EDIT COPY and paste it on a new layer.

Now you can colorize these eyes if you want by selecting an area around both eyes and going to colors, colorize, and playing with the numbers.

When you are done playing with the eyes, add a new raster layer and open the 10-hair.sel, fill this selection with the curlyhair2.jpg at a scale of 85 and deselect. On the same layer open the 11-hair.sel and fill with the curlyhair1.jpg at a scale of 100. Deselect. Then open up the 12-hair.sel and fill with the same curlyhair1.jpg and deselect.

Add a new raster layer and open the 13-bow.sel and fill with your choice, I used a sunburst gradient, deselect. On the same layer, open the 14-bow.sel and fill with the same, I used the same gradient inverted, deselect. Then open the 15-bow.sel and fill with the same, I inverted the gradient again, deselect.

Add a new raster layer and open the 16-legs.sel and fill with your skin color #E0BAA6 and deselect. Go to EFFECTS, 3D EFFECTS, CUTOUT with the settings below.

Add a new raster layer and open the 17-socks.sel and fill with white, Go to SELECTIONS, INVERT and then EFFECTS, 3D EFFECTS, DROP SHADOW with the settings below and deselect.

Vertical = 0
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 35
Blur = 20
Color = Black

On the same layer open the 18-socks.sel and fill with white, SELECTIONS, INVERT and use the same drop shadow, deselect.

Add a new raster layer and open the 19-shoes.sel, fill with your choice for the shoes, I used #404040 and deselect. Go to EFFECTS, 3D EFFECTS, INNER BEVEL with the settings below.

Add a new raster layer and open the 20-shoes.sel and fill with your choice, I used the same gradient as the bow in her hair, deselect. Then use preset shapes ellipse and the same gradient to make two little circles on the bows.

Add a new raster layer and open the 21-dress.sel and fill with your choice, I used the white lace tile above, deselect. On the same layer open the 22-dresstrim.sel and fill with your choice, I used the sunburst gradient again, deselect. Still on the same layer open the 23-dress.sel and go to COLORS, ADJUST, BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST changing the brightness to about -45 and the contrast at 0, deselect. Then open the 24-dress.sel and adjust the brightness to about -75 and deselect. Still on the same layer open the 25-dress.sel and change the brightness to about 50 and deselect.

Add a new raster layer and open the 26-belt.sel and fill with your choice, I used the sunburst gradient again, deselect.

Add a new raster layer and open the 27-hands.sel, fill with your skin color #E0BAA6 and deselect. Then open the 28-hands.sel and fill with a darker skin color #C48E70 and deselect. On the same layer open the 29-hands.sel and fill with a darker skin color #D09A7C and deselect. Then open the 30-hands.sel and fill with the same darker skin color #D09A7C and deselect. Still on the same layer open the 31-hands.sel and fill with a lighter skin color #F0D5C6 and deselect.

Add a new raster layer and open the 32-sleeves.sel, fill with the same as her dress and deselect. Then open the 33-sleeves.sel and adjust the brightness to about -75 and deselect. On the same layer open the 34-sleeves.sel and adjust the brightness to about 50 and deselect.

Add a new raster layer and open the 35-sleeves.sel, fill with your choice, I used the same gradient again, and deselect. On the same layer open the 36-sleeves.sel and adjust the brightness to about -50 and deselect.

Add a new raster layer and open the 37-dress.sel and fill with your choice, I used the same white lace pattern, deselect. On the same layer open the 38-dress.sel and adjust the brightness to about -50 and deselect. Then open the 39-dresstrim.sel and fill with your choice, I used that gradient again, deselect. Still on the same layer open the 40-dress.sel and adjust the brightness to about -75 and deselect. Then open the 41-dress.sel and adjust the brightness to about 50 and deselect.

Add a new raster layer and open the 42-dresstrim.sel and fill with your choice, I used the gradient, deselect and open the 43-dresstrim.sel and adjust the brightness about -30 and deselect.
