This tutorial was written using Paint Shop Pro 7.

You will need to download these Selections and save them in a folder of your choice.
Her hair is included in the zip file.

This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP and the tools needed.

Remember to save your image often.



Open a new image 500 x 600 on a transparent background

Load the 1-wing.sel and fill with #545A45 deselect

Same layer load the 2-wing.sel and fill with #DAD4AA deselect

Same layer load the 3-wing.sel and fill with black deselect

Same layer load the 4-wing.sel and fill with white deselect

Same layer load the 5-wing.sel and fill with #545A45 deselect

Same layer load the 6-wing.sel and fill with #DAD4AA deselect

Same layer load the 7-wing.sel and fill with black deselect

Same layer load the 8-wing.sel and fill with white deselect

Add a new raster layer, load the 9-wing.sel, "Selections" "Modify" "Contract = 1" and use a drop shadow with these settings

Vertical = 0
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 100
Blur = 35
Color = Black

Deselect and make the wings layer active again, using the "Magic Wand" with these settings

Match Mode = Opacity
Tolerance = 10
Feather = 2
Sample Merged = Unchecked

Use the Magic Wand to select the top part of the wing first, then hold down the (Shift) key and select the bottom part of the wing so the ants are marching around both the wings, then go to "Selections" "Invert" and make the shadow layer active again, go to "Edit" "Clear" to remove the shadow from the outside of the wings.... Deselect

Still on the shadow layer, load the 9-wing.sel again and fill with #545A45 deselect

Same layer load the 10-wing.sel and fill with #DAD4AA deselect

Same layer load the 11-wing.sel and fill with black and deselect

Same layer load the 12-wing.sel and fill with white and deselect

"Layers" "Merge" "Merge Visible"

"Layers" "Duplicate"

"Image" "Mirror"

"Layers" "Merge" "Merge Visible" and rename this layer Wings if you want...

Add a new raster layer, now open the "hair.psp" file included in the zip and in the same folder as the selections. "Edit" "Copy" the hair, and then return to your fairy image and load the 13-hair.sel and then go to "Edit" "Paste" "Into Selection" and deselect

Add a new raster layer and load the 14-neck.sel and fill with #E1C397 deselect

Apply a Cutout with the settings below...

Add a new raster layer and load the 15-dress.sel, fill with #545A45 and deselect

Apply a Cutout with the settings below...

Same layer load the 16-dress.sel and fill with Black and deselect.

Same layer load the 17-dress.sel and fill with #6C7359 deselect.

Add a new raster layer and load the 18-collar.sel and fill with the same #6C7359 and deselect.

Same layer load the 19-collar.sel and fill with #545A45 and deselect

Same layer load the 20-collar.sel and fill with #8A9270 and deselect

Add a new raster layer and load the 21-arms.sel and fill with #E1C397 deselect

Apply a cutout with the settings shown below

Add a new raster layer and load the 22-sleeves.sel and fill with #545A45 deselect

Same layer load the 23-sleeves.sel and fill with black and deselect

Same layer load the 24-sleeves.sel and fill with #6C7359 and deselect

Add a new raster layer and load the 25-ears.sel and fill with #E1C397 and deselect

Same layer load the 26-ears.sel and fill with #C99853 and deselect

Add a new raster layer and load the 27-head.sel and fill with #E1C397 deselect

Apply a cutout with the settings shown below...

Same layer load the 28-cheeks.sel and fill with #DB7837 deselect

Same layer load the 29-face.sel and fill with #C99853 deselect

Same layer load the 30-face.sel and fill with #EEDDC4 deselect

Same layer load the 31-eye-color.sel and fill with #6C7359 and deselect ( you can skip this if you want )

Same layer load the 32-lips.sel and fill with #D79691 deselect

Use the paintbrush with the settings shown below and a darker color #C86964 to paint some details

Then change to a lighter color and use the paintbrush again for a little highlight

Same layer load the 33-eyes.sel and fill with black and deselect

Use the paintbrush again to paint a little white in the eyes

Same layer load the 34-eyebrows.sel and fill with #A57939 deselect

Open the hair2.psp file included in the zip and go to "Edit" "Copy"

Back to the fairy image add a new raster layer and load the 35-bangs.sel and go to "Edit" "paste" "paste into selection" and then deselect..... You should be done...
