This tutorial was written using Paint Shop Pro 7.

You will need to download the Selections and save them to a folder of your choice. I have included the eyes and mouth in the zip file, in case you do not want to make your own... My curly hair tube is included also, or you can use my hair selections.

Here are the tiles I used for this tutorial, but you can use any tile you want.
Also you can use my hair tile, or the curly hair tube. It's up to you...

Here are the different skin colors I used.

Start by opening the tiles you will be using and  minimize them

Open a new image 450 x 450 on a transparent  background
name your first layer hatback, go to selections, load from  disk
and open the hatback.sel, fill with the first dress pattern of  your
choice, I used my dresstile2.jpg, deselect and on the same  layer
selections, load from disk, and open the hatback2.sel, go to  colors
adjust brightness/contrast and change the brightness to -55,  deselect

Add a new layer & call it hair2, selections, load from  disk, and open
the hair2.sel, I filled this selection with my  hairtile.jpg at 90% size
or you can make your own hair using the curly  hair tube.. deselect

Add a new  layer and name it neck, selections, load from disk, and open
the  neck.sel, fill with your skin color, I used #F4C6BE, selections,  float
and effects, 3d effects, cutout with these settings.

Add a new layer and name it legs, selections, load from  disk, and open
the legs.sel fill with the same skin color, selections,  float, and effects,

Add a new layer, name it hattop, open the  hattop.sel
fill with your second choice of pattern, I used the  dresstile1.jpg
selections, invert, and effects, 3d effects, apply this  drop shadow.
deselect

Add a new  layer, name it dress, open the dress.sel
fill with the same pattern and  deselect.
on the same layer load the dress2.sel
colors,  adjust brightness/contrast, and change the brightness to -65
deselect  and load the dress3.sel, adjust the brightness to 65, deselect

On  the same layer load the dressbottom.sel and fill with your other tile
I  used the dresstile2.jpg, deselect and still on the same  layer
load the dressbottom2.sel and adjust the brightness to -65,  deselect
and load the dressbottom3.sel, adjust the brightness to 65.  deselect

Add a new layer and name it head, open the ears.sel

and apply this cutout

add 3%  uniform noise and deselect

On the same layer load the head.sel and fill with same color

deselect and load  the head4.sel, fill with another darker shade, I used #EAB5A0
deselect  and on the same layer load the nose.sel and fill with the
same  darker skin color, I used #E4A68E, and deselect..
still on the same  layer load the cheeks.sel and fill with a cheeky color
I used #FC9C9C  and deselect... your face should look kinda like this

At this point you can make your own eyes and mouth, or  use mine
open the eyesandmouth.psp file and go to edit, copy.
then  back to your little girl, edit, paste as a new layer, and use
the mover  tool   and line the face up like so

Add a new  layer, name it hair1, open hair1.sel and fill with same as the other hair,  deselect
Or you can make your own hair with the curly hair tube or  Eyecandy 4000

Add a new layer and name it hatfront, open the  hatfront.sel and fill with your dress pattern
I used dresstile2.jpg,  deselect and on the same layer open the hatfront2.sel
colors,  adjust brightness/contrast and change the brightness to -65,  deselect
still on the same layer, open the hatfront3.sel and adjust the  brightness to 35, deselect

Add a new  layer and name it hatbow, open the hatbow.sel and fill with your dress  tile
I used the dresstile1.jpg, deselect and effects, 3d effects and  this drop shadow

Vertical = 0
Horizontal = 0
Opacity =  90
Blur = 12
Color = black

and on the same layer load  the hatbow2.sel
adjust the brightness to -50 and deselect, still same  layer
load the hatbow3.sel and adjust the brightness to 35,  deselect

Add a new layer and name it foot, open the  foot.sel and fill with your skin color

add 3% uniform noise and deselect

On  the same layer open the foot2.sel and adjust the brightness to  -30
deselect and load the foot3.sel, adjust the brightness to 30 and  deselect

Add a new layer and name it backarm, open the  backarm.sel
fill with your skin color, selections, float,
and apply  the same cutout but change the blur to 22
Deselect and add 3% uniform  noise.
I did not add too much
detail to this arm because the teddy  bear covers it anyway

On the same layer load the sleeveback.sel and  fill with your choice
I used a dark blue to match her dress, #4B5159,  deselect.

At this point if you are happy with the way she looks you  can merge
all your visible layers... Then add a new layer, naming it  whatever you
want, we will leave this layer blank and you can use this  layer to
go back and put whatever you want in her hands.

Add a  new layer and name it frontarm, open the frontarm.sel and fill
with  your skin color, selections, float, and apply this cutout

add 3% uniform noise and deselect

On the same  layer load the frontarm2.sel, adjust the brightness to -25
deselect  and load the frontarm3.sel, adjust the brightness to 35,  deselect.
still on the same layer, load the sleeve.sel and fill with  the same color
you used on the other sleeve. deselect

Still on the same layer, load the bow.sel and fill with  your bow color
deselect and load the bow2.sel and adjust the brightness  to -40
deselect and load the bow3.sel and adjust the brightness to  40
deselect and you are done with your girl

Now you can make  that empty layer active and give her something to hold
I used my teddy  bear tube at 40% size, you can find this tube in the
bears section of  my homepage if you would like to use it too

And here is my  finished girl
