This tutorial was written using Paint Shop Pro 7.

You will need to download these selections and save them in a folder of your choice. His eyes and mouth are included in the zip.

Here are the tiles I used for his clothes and hair.



You will need to save these skin colors.


Start by opening the face, hair tile, army tile and skin colors and set them aside for now.

Open a new image 350 x 500 on a transparent background Name the first layer shoes and go to selections, load from disk, and open the shoe1.sel. Fill this with white and go to effects 3d effects, inner bevel and apply these settings. Deselect.

On the same layer, load the shoe2.sel and fill with a dark brown I used #6A4B30, apply the same inner bevel and deselect.

Still on the same layer load the shoe3.sel and fill with white apply the same inner bevel and deselect.

Same layer, load the shoe4.sel and fill with same brown color apply the same inner bevel and deselect.

Add a new layer and load the backhair.sel, fill this with the hair tile provided above at 70% size Angle = 0 deselect. This looks kinda strange but it will be covered later.

Add a new layer and load the head.sel, using the skin colors provided above, fill this with the medium skin color and deselect.

On the same layer load the head2.sel and fill with the dark skin color and deselect.

On the same layer load the head3.sel and fill with the darker skin color and deselect.

On the same layer load the head4.sel and fill with the light skin color and deselect.

On the same layer load the head5.sel and fill with the dark skin color and deselect.

On the same layer load the cheeks.sel and fill with the cheek color and deselect.

Now add a new layer and load the hair.sel fill with the same hair tile at 70% size and Angle = 235 apply the same inner bevel as before and deselect.

Now open the face included in the zip file and go to edit, copy and then back to your boy go to edit paste as a new layer, using your mover tool 
line the face up like so....

Add a new layer and load the hat.sel  fill with the army tile at 70% and Angle = 0 deselect and on the same layer load the hatshade.sel go to colors, adjust, brightness/contrast and change the brightness to -100 and deselect.

Add a new layer and load the backarm.sel and fill with the medium skin color and deselect. On the same layer, load the backarmshade.sel and fill with the dark skin color and deselect. Still on the same layer, load the backarmlight.sel fill with the light skin color and deselect.

On the same layer, load the frontarm1.sel and fill with the medium skin color and deselect, on the same layer load the frontarm1shade.sel and fill with the dark skin color. Deselect

Add a new layer and load the shirt.sel, fill with a color/pattern of your choice, I used #D5CFC3 and deselect. On the same layer load the shirt2.sel and go to colors, adjust, brightness/contrast and change the brightness to -50 and deselect.

On the same layer load the flagred.sel and fill with red color #C00000, deselect.

Load the flagblue.sel and fill with blue color #000080 deselect

Load the flagwhite.sel and fill with white, deselect.

Load the words.sel and fill with white, deselect.

Add a new layer and load the pants.sel, fill with same army tile at 70% size and deselect. On the same layer load the pants2.sel and go to colors, adjust, brightness/contrast and change the brightness to -85 and deselect. On the same layer load the pants3.sel and adjust the brightness to 65 and deselect.

On the same layer load the belt.sel and fill with black while still selected go to effects, texture, sculpture and apply the default leather preset, deselect.
load the belt2.sel and fill with black, while still selected go to effects, 3d effects, and apply the default round inner bevel and deselect.

Add a new layer and load the lace1.sel fill this with white and deselect. Then load the lace2.sel and fill with white. deselect.

Merge all of your layers.

On the merged layer, load the shadow.sel colors, adjust, brightness/contrast and change the brightness to -75 and deselect.

Still on the same layer load the frontarm2.sel and fill with the medium skin color and deselect then load the frontarm2shade.sel and fill with the dark skin color and deselect. then load the frontarm2light.sel and fill with the light skin color deselect and you are done....
