This tutorial was written using Paint Shop Pro 7.

You will need to download these selections and save them in a folder of your choice. The face is included in the zip.

Here are the different tiles we will be using. Save these and minimize them in PSP.



Here are the skin colors we will be using. Save this and open it up in PSP.



This tutorial is pretty long, it uses about 41 selections. Remember to save often.

Start by opening all the tiles in psp and minimize them.

Open the skin colors, I will be referring to these by the
numbers on them. You can add these to your cutom
colors by opening the colors pallet, then click on skin
color #1 and in the colors pallet click on "add cutom"


 
 

Go to "file" "new" and open a new image 450 x 450
on a transparent background.

In your layers pallet, name your first layer Jammies
Go to "selections" "load from disk" and browse to the
folder you saved the selections into and open the jammies.sel

Flood fill this selection with the jammies pattern and deselect.

On the same layer, go to "selections" "load from disk"
and open the jammies_lines.sel
go to "colors" "adjust" "brightness/contrast" and change 
the brightness to -45 and deselect.

On the same layer, go to "selections" "load from disk"
and open the jammies_shade.sel
"colors" "adjust" "brightness/contrast" and change
the brightness to -35 and deselect

On the same layer, load the jammies_feet.sel
fill this with a lighter color, I used #C9A9A9
while still selected, go to "effects" "3d effects"
"inner bevel" using these settings

while still selected, go to "effects" "noise"
add 10% uniform noise and deselect. 

go to "layers" "new raster layer" and name it backhair
load the hair1.sel, set your foreground pattern to the
hair tile and change the angle to 90

fill with the hair tile and deselect.

go to "layers" "new raster layer" and name it head
load the head.sel and fill with the skin color #1 (medium)
go to selections, float and then effects, 3d effects, cutout
apply this cutout and deselect.

on the same layer, open the head_shade1.sel
fill with the skin color #2 (dark) and deselect.

on the same layer, open the head_shade2.sel
fill with the same skin color #2 and deselect.

on the same layer, open the head_highlight.sel
fill with the skin color #3 (light) and deselect.

on the same layer, open the head_cheeks.sel
fill with the skin color #4 (cheek color) and deselect.

Now go to "file" "open" and open the face.psp
go to "edit" "copy" and back to your girl go
to edit, paste as a new selection and move
it into place with the mover tool, deselect

add a new raster layer and name it hair
open the hair2.sel and using the same hair tile
change the angle to 325 and fill this selection.
deselect

on the same layer, open the hair3.sel
change the angle to 205 and fill with same hair tile
deselect

on the same layer, open the hair4.sel
change the angle to 270 and fill with same tile. deselect

add a new raster layer and name it list
open the list.sel and fill with the paper tile
changing the angle back to 0 and deselect

on the same layer, open the list words.sel
"colors" "adjust" "brightness/contrast"
change the brightness to -150 and deselect.

add a new raster layer and name it hand shadow
open the hand_shadow.sel and choose black for
your fill color, in the tool options pallet change the
opacity of the fill to 15 and fill the selection with black.
deselect

add a new raster layer and name it hands
open the hands.sel and changing the opacity
back to 100 in the tool options pallet, fill this
selection with skin color #1 (medium)
go to selections, float and then effects, 3d effects
cutout, changing the blur to 10 and leaving the
other settings the same. deselect.

on the same layer, open the hand_fingers.sel
fill this with the skin color #2 (dark) and deselect

on the same layer, open the hands_shade.sel
fill with the same skin color #2 and deselect.

add a new raster layer and name it pencil
open the pencil.sel and fill with #E6B570
go to effects, 3d effects, and this inner bevel

deselect, on the same layer, open the pencil_top.sel
fill with light gray #C0C0C0, while still selected go to
effects, texture, blinds with these settings

Width = 2
Opacity = 15
Color = black
Horizontal checked
Light from left/top checked

while still selected, go to effects, 3d effects, inner bevel
use the settings below and deselect.

on the same layer, open the pencil_eraser.sel
fill this selection with #E6A196 and apply the
same inner bevel and deselect.

add a new raster layer and name it plate.
open the plate.sel and fill with #808080
apply this inner bevel and deselect.

on the same layer, open the plate_note.sel
fill this with the paper tile and deselect.

on the same layer, open the for_santa.sel
colors, adjust, brightness/contrast
change the brightness to -150 and deselect.

add a new raster layer and name it cookies
open the cookies1.sel and fill with the cookie tile
at a scale of 50%, while still selected go to effects
3d effects, and apply this inner bevel and deselect.

on the same layer, open the cookies2.sel
fill with the same tile, apply the same inner bevel and deselect.

on the same layer, open the cookies3.sel
fill with the same tile, apply the same inner bevel and deselect.

add a new raster layer and name it cup
open the cup_handle.sel and fill with the xmas tile
apply an inner bevel using the same settings and deselect

on the same layer, open the milk.sel 
fill with the paper tile at a scale of 35% and deselect.

on the same layer, open the cup.sel
fill with the xmas tile at a scale of 80%
set your background color to black and go to
effects, 3d effects, buttonize with these settings

Height = 1
Width = 19
Opacity = 80
Transparent Edge

deselect and on the same layer, open the cup_top.sel
fill with the same xmas tile, apply an inner bevel using
the same settings as before and deselect.

add a new raster layer and name it teddy bear
open the bear_body.sel and fill with the bearfur tile 
deselect

on the same layer, open the bear_body_shade.sel
go to colors, adjust, brightness/contrast and change
the brightness to -55 and deselect

open the bear_bow.sel and fill with a color/pattern of
your choice, I used the same pattern as her jammies
while still selected apply an inner bevel using the
"frame" preset, default settings. Deselect.

open the bear_head.sel and fill with the bearfur tile
deselect and on the same layer open the bear_head_shade.sel
go to colors, adjust, brightness/contrast and change
the brightness to -55 and deselect

open the bear_pads.sel and fill with same fur tile
while still selected, go to colors, adjust, brightness/contrast
and change the brightness to 50 and deselect

open the bear_mouth.sel and fill with black. deselect

open the bear_nose_eyes.sel and fill with black,
while still selected apply an inner bevel using the 
default "round" settings and deselect.

open the bear_stitches.sel and fill with black, deselect.

And you are done!
