SuperBladePro Tutorial #3:

Mandala

Get SuperBladePro
Reproduced with written permission from a Flaming Pear representative November 2, 2000.

These four tutorials may be downloaded from Flaming Pear in one zipped file,
but the screenshots are huge. Also with permission from Flaming Pear,
I have reduced the image sizes for faster downloading and to facilitate printing.

Please note: The SuperBladePro filter screens have been cut into two pieces [left and right].
Reducing the entire screenshot blurs the text and numbers too much.

In a layer, create a large ornamental shape and fill it with a neutral color.

Some "dingbat" fonts have shapes like this. You can find these fonts here.

Use a SuperBladePro preset like "old brass" to change the shape's appearance. Filter Settings - Left SideFilter Settings - Right Side
Apply the effect to the image. For now, the whole shape has a single look. Mandala with effect applied
Create a new layer on top of the old one, with the same shape in the same position. Same shape - new layer on top of the old one
Use SuperBladePro to add a different effect to this new layer. Different effect added to the new layer
Use your paint program's eraser tool to remove parts of this new layer. Erasing parts of the new layer
Display all layers. Parts of the first shape will show through the top shape. Here a background and a shadow have been added.
