SuperBladePro Tutorial #4:
Damaged Aluminum

Reproduced with written permission from a Flaming Pear representative November 2, 2000.
These four tutorials may be downloaded from Flaming Pear in one zipped file,
but the screenshots are huge. Also with permission from Flaming Pear,
I have reduced the image sizes for faster downloading and to facilitate printing.
Please note: The SuperBladePro filter screens have been cut into two pieces [left and right].
Reducing the entire screenshot blurs the text and numbers too much.
| In a layer, create some raster text and airbrush in some broad strokes of very subdued blue and yellow.
|
 |
| Use an irregularly shaped brush to paint dark scratches. |
 |
Get the "marching ants" selection marquee around the text and invoke SuperBladePro. Clear the settings by clicking the "simple bevel" button. Then load the texure "aluminum" and the environment "white chrome"or "aurora". Turn Reflection down to about 30, Texture to about 40, and Embossing to 100. Add a little Tarnish in deep, muted green, and some blotches in a dull olive color.
Note from Joyce: The aluminum texture is included in the zip file for these tutorials, so if you want it, download aluminum.zip, then unzip and put it in your Environments and Textures folder.
| Click OK to apply the effect.
Try adding a backdrop composed of the same muted blues and yellows
that you painted the word with.
